According to Christian belief, Jesus, the Son of God, was crucified, died, and was buried—and on the third day, He rose from the dead. This miraculous event is considered proof of Jesus’ divine nature and the promise of eternal life for believers. Biblical Account The story of the resurrection is recorded in all four Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. After Jesus was crucified and laid in a tomb, several women, including Mary Magdalene, went to the tomb on the third day to anoint His body. They found the stone rolled away and the tomb empty.
